Are you interested in getting involved and making a change in your community? The Bridgeport Community Association is always looking to for volunteers to join our team! We have different positions for whatever fits your needs, whether that be occasional volunteer work, helping with weekly programming, or becoming a member of our board of directors!

The BCA runs a variety of community programming at the Bridgeport Community Centre, which is organized in partnership with the City of Kitchener on a seasonal basis. From sports and fitness programs, to arts and crafts, to social groups – we aim to offer programs that serve a variety of ages & interests across our community. Keeping our programs as affordable as possible is also a key priority for us, and getting help from neighbourhood volunteers is a big part of how we achieve this.
If you enjoy volunteering and are available on an ongoing basis, this might be the perfect opportunity for you! Please be sure to let us know what kind of scheduling, age groups, and activity types best suit you so that we can try to match you with the best program(s).
Throughout the year, the Board organizes a variety of Special Events such as Kids Dance Parties, Movie Nights, Skate Parties and more. These events are always a ton of fun, and typically see a large turnout from the local community. In order to facilitate these events (many of which are free or low-cost to attend!), we always need helping hands to assist with event set up, managing activities around the event, guest assistance, and event clean up. We also try to make sure that our volunteers also get some time to partake in the fun during our events, and at any events where the BCA is selling food and drink, all volunteers get a free food & drink item during their event shift.
In addition to special events, the Board often needs assistance with special tasks such as delivery of flyers around our community, assisting with the management of our new Little Community Pantry & Little Community Library (both are coming soon!), and attending other community events (such as nearby Kindergarten Welcome Nights, or City-organized events, etc) to help us get the word out about BCA’s programs & events to more folks in our community.
While there is no minimum number of events or tasks that a volunteer must commitment to per year or quarter, we do ask that once you have committed to volunteering for a specific event or task, you strive to keep that commitment to avoid putting our programming at risk of cancellation.
Our Board Members are the core group of volunteers who plan and manage all of the programs and events that we offer for our community. This involves idea sharing (for events, programs and other community improvements), managing the overall program & event calendar, recruitment of program staff and volunteers, marketing efforts, fundraising efforts, grant applications, budgeting, and a variety of other administrative and facilitation tasks.
Our team is always interested in hearing from community members who have fresh ideas and unique skill sets to bring to our Board of Directors, as this helps us to keep the workload manageable for everyone while also ensuring we never run out of fresh ideas and perspectives on how we can best serve our community.
